A Sudy of Inspirations

Pictured above is Takiyasha the Witch and the Skeleton Spectre, a woodblock print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi. The figure and dress of the witch (left triptych) inspired my own Takiyasha character in the game Haunt, though I added a Kitsune Mask to symbolize her fox-like cleverness and connection to the spirit realm.

The art incorporated into my games is a product of the visual, auditory, and literary cultures that inspire me. In combining works from the history of fine art into this new medium of videogames, I believe the beauty our forebears captured is given new life.
